When thinking about rain on a wedding day, two things come to mind: 1.)Alanis Morissette and 2.)The old adage that rain is a sign of good luck on that day. The latter of these two might make you think that this wedding superstition was made up to help a blue bride feel better about a down pour on her big day. However, according to The Pink Bride, there are several reasons why wedding day precipitation, in many different cultures, is considered good luck and we’ve even witnessed the good favor rain can bring!
The Valerie & Co. Photographers team often has the privilege of getting to cuddle up with an incredible brand new bundle of joy here at the studio. We just love to love on them, and genuinely believe that all tiny humans really are awesome! Adorable Eleanor and her parents recently came in for our Charleston newborn photography. Every picture captured is precious and it was really nice spending time getting to know mom, dad, and baby. :-) Our session with cutie Eleanor was also a great reminder of how amazing babies truly are!
Bride and Groom, Meghan and Nick, were married late summer in what was an absolutely gorgeous Charleston resort island wedding. The entire event was luxurious and elegant from start to finish. The day began at Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Sanctuary Hotel where the couple, the bridal party, and guests stayed. The bridal party got ready for the wedding in the Resort's Ashley and Cooper Hospitality Suites. The men of the party suited up in the billiard room while enjoying a BLT lunch, some cold beers, and a few rounds of pool. In the other suite, the Bridesmaids had a delightful time getting perfectly styled and dressed, and having a few snacks before the big day ahead.
As everyone was preparing, the bridal party got to open the presents given to them by the bride and groom. The youngest bridal party members received some really fun sunglasses that made for a thoughtful gift on that bright summer day and for future sunny occasions. The kids really looked adorable sporting those shades! Along with the glasses, personalized necklaces from Gold Leaf Fine Jewelry in Massachusetts were gifted to the little girls. The jeweler provided all of the stunning accessories for the wedding, including Meghan and Nick’s fantastic rings! Giving jewelry to the bridal party is a very lovely gift and provides everyone in the bridal party with a nice little extra something to put on for the wedding.
For their big day, this couple had really considered every little detail! The Keepsake Florist bouquets and flower arrangements were a pretty match to the whisper pink Bella Bridesmaid dresses Meghan selected for the ladies. Before Meghan slipped into her Kleinfeld NY Gown and Christian Louboutin shoes, she appropriately thought to wear a cute and comfortable “I Do” engagement ring top during her time prepping and primping for the wedding. Even the men’s Dillard’s suspenders had a special detail. Embroidered on each guy’s pair were their own initials and were worn with their Joseph A. Bank suits. Though the Groom also had the suspenders, his suit, however, was special made and tailored from clothier, Farley’s of Newportbury in Massachusetts.
With Meghan, Nick, and their whole crew ready to go, they headed to Holy Spirit Catholic Church on John’s Island for the traditional marriage ceremony. After the vows and the kiss, Absolutely Charleston’s red trolley-bus took the bridal party to The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island for a classy outdoor cocktail hour on the Grand Lawn before the start of the reception. At the reception, Meghan, Nick, and all of the guests enjoyed The Sanctuary’s fine food, champagne toasts, delicious cake, Charleston Photobooth and DJ’s fun music, and lots of dancing, in glad celebration of a wonderful wedding day!
Portuguese Water Dog, Pete, was named by his family after the dog ‘Petey’ from the show Little Rascals. Just like Petey in the Little Rascals is a pal to lots of kids, the Hallam family's pet Pete is also a pal to a great number of children! Pete is a part of the Pet Therapy Program with MUSC's children’s hospital. Mrs. Hallam is Pete’s handler for the pet therapy and she also works as a vet tech at an animal medical center. They both very much enjoy the work they do. Our studio's job as a Charleston Family Photographer, is to capture pictures of the whole family, which includes furry family members too. :-) We just loved the pet portraits we took of Pete and we loved learning all about what he does and how meaningful it is for so many!
The rich spirit of adventure that children possess, is a wonderful and precious quality! Though kids seem to grow in the blink of an eye, as they age and develop, it’s amazing to witness how their experiences and explorations help shape their curious little minds into who they’ll become. Pictures that document each fun age, and the different formative stages, are a special treasure. Having your Charleston family portraits taken throughout the years will provide you with beautiful high-finished family photographs to cherish. Valerie & Co. Photographers had a fun session with adventurous young siblings, Leland and Edith, and both have big and fantastic dreams for the future!
Bride and Groom, Rachel and Blake, are a sweet and easy going pair and we really love them! They like the beautiful and the simpler things in life which draws them to their shared love and enjoyment of nature. That love, and their love for each other, is what shaped their rustic & romantic wedding day! Though based as a Charleston wedding photographer, our studio adores capturing "I do's" in locations near and far. :-) Rachel and Blake's beautiful big day took place in a lovely little rural area a few miles outside of Charleston and was a county wedding done right! Every detail of their Monks Corner, SC event, makes you feel as though you've stepped into a countryside daydream.
The Valerie & Co. Photographers crew is really excited for the start of this year’s wedding season. You know it’s about that time when all of the flowers are blooming and really nice weather begins to roll in. Our studio is all set and ready to rock & roll through this new wedding season, but, even though Spring is the kickoff, it’s not the only time of year for weddings. Summer’s extreme heat can sort of bring a slow to the season in Charleston, the fall, however, is when weddings pick right back up. The weather is, once again, excellent and it’s a beautiful time to get married, just like our couple, Christina and Mike! Their Charleston wedding at historic Society Hall was a perfect fall nuptial celebration. This lovely venue was built in 1804 and, since 1841, has hosted a variety of meetings, from dance classes to weddings. The pair’s big day at this historic Charleston site was our last 2016 wedding and a really great event to end the year with! There were so many beautiful, fun, lively, and emotional moments. It was an honor and a pleasure to capture them all and these two were also very glad that we did. Bride, Christina, kindly thanked us and said, “Thank you for all you did. So many of my guests made comments about how hard you all worked to get the shots you got and many said whatever I paid you, you were well worth it and more.” Making these two so happy with images from their fantastic fall wedding was a delight! We appreciate their acknowledgment, and their joy is such a huge compliment to us. For a little more about Chris and Mike, their wonderful wedding, and their different vendors, the pair shared answers to a few of our questions!
