Dad to be, Scott, is a Chief Mate on tanker vessels carrying petroleum products and Sondra is a Captain on a Oil Spill Recovery ship. Sondra said they both love their jobs and that she'll enjoy hers again soon when she's not so very pregnant, lol! When we asked what her overall feelings are on the experience of pregnancy, Sondra said that it has been relatively pleasant. :-) She was able to work on the ship up until 6 months! However she's felt that these last couple of days on the home stretch have been the most difficult with not being able to be as active. The later part of pregnancy can be a little more uncomfortable which is why we try to schedule all of our maternity sessions, including Sondra's, for 34 weeks. It's an ideal time where you feel your best and we can photograph & capture the sweet tenderness of that season of life.
In June, Sondra & Scott had a fun gender reveal party with the theme “Mermaid or Pirate, what shall baby be?” There were themed cupcakes for everyone to have at the party with BLUE filling hidden in the center to let everyone know they're having a baby boy!! Being mariners, the couple chose to do a nautical nursery for their baby. Sondra said they got a little creative and painted the ceiling deep ocean blue with blue/grey walls. They also have a white noise sea turtle that projects ocean waves on the ceiling, perfectly completing the room's theme!
With everything this couple has done to prepare for their baby, it only makes sense that they would want their Maternity Session on the water at the beautiful Charleston Harbor Marina. When speaking about their session, Sondra said, "We are so happy with the end results. The photos are beautiful and really captured the essence of who we are with our upcoming new addition. The session itself was so easy with Valerie coaching us every step of the way. That's always the 'feared' part when you want to get professional photos done and Valerie made it a fun experience, even though my feet were swelling like beach balls, hahahaha!"
Very soon, it'll be time for Scott & Sondra's Newborn Session. :-) Scott and Sondra are really looking forward to the newborn session and she said, "We have two special outfits that if possible, we would like to coordinate in for his newborn session. One is a knitted sailors outfit and then an anchor bow tie. It’s so important to us to have an ocean/nautical theme or element to this session because that is who we are as a family!"
We just can't wait for their session too and to meet their baby boy! Check back here with our blog for images from their newborn session. :-)
